Michael Rubio

Medical Director

Michael Rubio MMSc, PA‑C

Education

Emory School of Medicine, Class of 2017
Undergraduate, University of Georgia

Experience

Michael began his career in dermatology in New York City, helping expand a network of practices from 10 to 50 locations across all five boroughs. Yet even with that growth, access remained a challenge. From working mothers to service industry employees, patients still struggled to find care that fit their lives.

In 2020, he launched the Sollis Health COVID-19 membership program, achieving hospitalization rates below 2%. The experience reinforced his belief in the power of membership-based healthcare, while highlighting a fundamental challenge: even the best models of care can only make a difference if patients know how to access them.

That insight led him to medical writing. At MJH Life Sciences, North America's largest privately held, independent, full-service medical media company, Michael became a leading contributor to one of its medical journals, developing a deeper understanding of how to communicate complex health information to diverse patient populations.

At the Society of Dermatology PAs (SDPA), he created LitBit, a publication that translated dense, peer-reviewed research into concise, accessible summaries. He also served as co-chair of the Distance Education Committee, helping make continuing medical education more approachable.

But clear communication is only effective when it reaches people where they are.

In 2023, Michael co-founded a healthcare management company, overseeing everything from marketing, website development, payments, patient intake, and fulfillment to day-to-day operations. Through that work, he helped grow New Zealand's largest telemedicine platform from zero to more than 6,000 members.

Each of these experiences helped shape the vision behind Skips.

Founded in New York City in 2019, Skips began by connecting patients with care through independent community pharmacies. Today, it serves patients across all 50 states, bringing together the lessons Michael has learned throughout his career: healthcare should be accessible, communication should be clear, and getting care should fit into people's lives not the other way around.
